SHORT THROW PROJECTORS:

POTENTIAL SHORT THROW PROJECTORS AS OF 12-28-11   (I went with the Mitsubishi EW230U-ST)

BRAND MODEL 16:10 DST NATIVE RES A/R LUMENS CONTRAST C OFFSET PRICE

MITS EW230U-ST 3' 7” 1280X800 16:10 2500 2,000:1 2.7" $650

Comparable ST projector at the time:

BENQ MP780ST 3' 7” 1280X800 16:10 2500 3,000:1 2.8” $1045

NOTE: When using a 12' diameter curved screen, we must use 16:10 Aspect Ratio. All projectors must be set on the same plane and NO key stoning can be applied.

NOTE: 16:10 DST = 85” X 53” per projector (IMAGE PROJECTION FROM LENS TO SCREEN)

NOTE: C OFFSET (Ceiling off set) = the distance from the top of the projected image to the center of the projector's lens.
NOTE: At this distance on a 12' diameter curved screen:
800 X 600 = 106 pixels per square inch 480,000 total pixels
1024 X 768 = 144 pixels per square inch 786,432 total pixels

NATIVE RES       PIXELS         PIXELS PER PROJECTOR

      800 X 600          106 PSI                        477,530

     1024 X 768         144 PSI                        786,432

     1280 X 800         227 PSI                       1,024,000

     1920 X 1080       511 PSI                       2,302,055

1280 X 800 = 227 pixels per square inch 1,024,000 total pixels (I am using this type)
Fun fact: There are 3,072,000 pixels when using a three projector system in 1280 X 800 Native
Resolution on a 12' diameter screen system.

To get the latest free Adobe version of the SAM, click HERE This manual has over 120 pages of pictures and step by step instructions on how to assemble my cockpit shell section. I wanted to release the "SAM" to the public to share my ideas and prove to future builders that a full scale flight simulator cockpit shell can be achieved with time and common hand tools.
